9:49pm: MacJournal Test
Not sure what I’m doing with this app, but figured it can talk to LJ or any other blogpile I throw at it.

My updates have been few and far between, maybe I’m more of a listener (or an arrogant bastard) than a talker.

9:45am: Second Place Sam
My God, haven't made a blog entry in years...usually my life is boring....

My work brethren can tell you my new pokah nickname has been well earned...especially if we play a freeze-out where only first pays out.  My current streak is at three...ouch...

But there is an upside...

2d place

My favorite hand of the day had to be this one, where I turned a royal flush...the person who called my all-on on the river admitted that his call of my all-in holding of a set of twos on that board was very, very bad. I can't help but agree, all he can really beat there is a bluff...

Catch o' the day!

2:50am: My fave pol site

Just cuz they use the term 'Orthian', which is way cool.
And constantly slam on the Daily Kos for the spineless donks that they (mostly) are.

Actually, just wanted to show off my new avatar. :)

File under 'lammah is a big donk for making yet another JOKPE-related post'...

I can't be this good. If you recall, at the end of march I finished 1st out of 477 other fish . Luck strikes again, as this time I finished 2nd out of 677 in a $2 buyin tourney on Party Poker netting a cool couple hundred beans. Played fairly well, no all-in suckouts (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!), though I did get lucky a couple time with smaller pots, including behing behind A-8 vs A-4 with two aces on the board and rivering a 4 on a paired board to beat my opponent, and bluffing with junk with a broadway draw only to catch a 10 on the river for a split.

Took a fairly brutal beat heads-up when I had a pocket pair of 7s, raised in the SB, and had the BB call with paint-10...naturally, what shows up on the flop is 10-10-10. My opponent, Lava1, had flopped quad 10s. I lost half a million chips on that (total in this tourney is about 2m)...and then when down to about 400k, I pushed all-in with 9-2s...naturally my opponent had A-9 and while I did catch a two on the turn, he caught the ace on the flop. I probably could have beaten him if I wasn't so tired...that move was just due to exhaustion, as it was well past 5am by the time the other 675 people had busted. Before that, 'Rospigliani'...who must have pushed all of his chips a couple of dozen times and been lucky to have only been called maybe once or twice if that did it yet again. Too bad that his A-Q ran up against my big slick...which held up...not his fault, I just got luckyish there.

What sucked was three-handed, with Q-J on the button, I raised, got called...and flopped Q-J-x. Of course, my computer decides that I'm a complete degenerate and decides to reboot at the moment I'm preparing to bet out...probably was a good thing, who knows if somebody was slowplaying trips or worse...

All in all, a smashing success...before that, on PS I finished third on some $10 buy-in SNG, and made about $8 from that, modulo rake. The only problem is that I've been up all night. Is that really worth it, even if I win? I'm not so sure. And if you're wondering, I usually do SNGs for this very reason...and typically don't swing more than a few bucks in either direction...except when I hit the jackpot like tonight.

I really want to sleep right now. Hoping Congress gets off its ass and makes this illegal so in addition to fucking up my sleep schedule I can break the law as well.

21st April 2006

Mmm went to ronebofh and tuwanda's yesterday, purportedly to console him regarding
not working at ProTrade, but really to fill my growling tummy, which was done in a steller fashion
via some kickass venison chili made by Tuwanda.

Afterwards, hung out, didn't do much except to relearn cuarenta, which is a Ecuadorean card
game that's loads of fun.  Amusingly enough, I beat rone, but I seriously think he was playing
soft with me.  Ah well, a good time out, as I don't get out much....I just left work yesterday, running
into my boss outside pacing and yakking on his cell, and interrupting his converstion to let him
know I needed to 'decompress'.

Have some photos to share, too.

Think it's like the second time I've ever eaten Bambi.

Gratuitous rone pic...he truly is clean-shaven, which is good.

No piccies of their fabulous two dogs, alas...but I have these to share, which is my cousin's family pet, a pit bull named Gina.

Gina, such a cute dog

And because other nearby residents are dicks (don't recall the full story, but this dog is apparently is some kind of threat to the community),  they've had to put the following sign up:

1:38am: Trashy youth...

Jason is attracted to the oddest things...as is his father.
One of those pictures that gets you disowned by the family,
but is too cute to resist.

He's 18 months now, and has a mane of unruly chestnut hair.
Love him to death, he's quite alert and bright, but don't
try to take stuff away from him, he yells like a banshee if
you do that, as the middle brother loves to do, just to get
a rise out of him.

7:53am: JOKPE
Whee...a run of really good luck.

First out of 470 entrants. This is a little bit better than my last entry extolling the virtues of pushing all in with The Hammer...

Last week I finished 5th in a $3 buy-in 1500+ player MTT on PS and netted $181 for my five hours of hitting the 'fold' button, dozing, and pushing all-in and hitting two-outers.

12:44am: THE HAMMAH
Always wanted to go all-in with a 72o, aka "The Hammah"...and here it is.
Ended up flopping two pair and making a full house. The two players I busted
didn't feel too bad...after all, this was a freeroll.

11:04pm: In defense of the power trio...
"Thank you Kurt Cobain, you stupid fuck, it was bad enough inflicting Courtney on us, but bringing power trios back was truly evil."

(taken from an article from MIT's comedy paper "Voo Doo")

Are power trios in fact the spawn of prog's satanic offspring? Or do they in fact represent the pure essence of what's brillant in music, stripped down to the core? Or is the truth somewhere in between?

In ancient times, we had The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Cream striding the earth. No denying that these acts were brillant and influential.

The 80s brought The Minutemen. Husker Du (and later Sugar). And even Nirvana, despite what those MIT hacks think.

Then there's Rush. AIYEE. Neal Peart is the Marvin the Paranoid Android of lyricists. The music has it's moments, though. A qualified positive.

Ah, here's one that sucks. Presidents Of The United States Of America. A definite negative, especially when they started to abbreviate themselves as POT-USA. The only worthwhile thing about them was that Weird Al "covered" their only hit.

You'll have to think long and hard to find any more that outright suck.

Crap...I actually wanted to title this "why power trios suck" but clearly trying to argue that is untenable, as it turns out that they have to be pretty good musicians to pull it off. Then again, try to name me bands that have 8 members in them. Poi Dog Pondering? Any "classic" act with backing musicians doing the work of the stars?

10:11am: Alton Brown is a dumbass

Well, gee, Alton, what did you expect?

As an associate puts it, yes, it's *shocking* that there are childish dumbasses on the internet.
Now there's one more.

9:59am: JOPKE
Kinda lame, but I might as well talk about something if I'm going to make this work.

First time I've played Pot-Limit Omaha, too...

Naturally, this isn't for anything other than play money. I value my marriage more than any silly game.

Also played NLH Pokerstars 300+20 Sit n' Go...decent results (broke even, basically)
9th/45 (didn't even get the seat warm on the final table, I was really low on chips)
5th/18 (missed the play money by one, doh!)
5th/27 (625 chips, this is the lowest paying position)
5th/25 (625 chips...could have done better...I busted out allin with 2 pair against trips)

9:02am: going "Postel"

A little over seven years ago, Jon Postel passed away.

"Be liberal in what you accept, and conservative in what you send."

To quote from the site:

Jon was many things to many people in the Internet:

* In its infancy, Jon worked on its development, from its early protocols, to the creation of TCP/IP.
* Documenter and co-developer many of the key Internet standards, including TCP/IP (basic Internet protocols), SMTP (email transfer), and DNS (name servers).
* Editor of the RFC series from April 7, 1969 (its inception) until his untimely departure in Oct. 1998, covering over 2400 RFCs, and advocate of clean, conservative protocol design and specification. See RFC-2555 for more information.
* Co-author of over 204 Internet RFCs
* The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA), and advocate of conservation of protocol and port numbers.

I'm sure if he was living today we wouldn't have the mess that is the current ipv6 implementation.

10:47am: Lipstick libertarians
Let me drop the gauntlet to libbies.

Stop your yammering and general k00kiness, appeal somehow to the masses and provide some kind of viable alternative.

That is all. Thanks.

I mean, I can see the appeal of "free minds and freer markets" but why do the LP and libbies in general come off as being so gosh-darned kooky? I guess it's good for hotels wanting to book their smallest, out-of-the-way rooms for a bunch of mismatched suits and horn-rimmed glasses on the gauche side of Drew Carey's? I guess it's like a boys club for political nerds. That there seem to be a paucity of hot LP chicks attests to that. I could be wrong, please educate me, there's only 8 bazillion of you on the dubya dubya dubya.

Yes, at some point, I'll expound a bit on why I'm blogging, for the longest time I've been against the very idea. In fact, I still am. What the hell am I doing here!?!

P.S. I find it amusing that LJ's spellcheck doesn't recognize the word "blogging". They have the right idea there.
